where have i been? i don't know. i have a picture to post, but the camera is all the way over there ... and the camera cord is up there ... i'll have to do it later. i would get up and get these things, but really i don't have time to even be writing this blog post, so i need to speed through it.

on thursday i am leaving for NEW YORK CITY! i've been to new york once, almost exactly 8 years ago. that was also the last time i flew anywhere, so i'm a bit nervous to do it again. and all alone, no less. i am going to the SCBWI conference, which is so exciting. I've wanted to go for years, and finally decided now was the time. i have some friends who live in brooklyn and they graciously allowed me to stay with them. it will be a trek each morning into manhattan, but at least it's a free place to stay, and at least they are awesome.

on friday i am going to an optional "Illustrator intensive." i have confirmation that i'm going, but i never had any information mailed to me, even though they mailed me info on the other two regular days of conference. i thought that was odd, so the other night i went on their site in search of info. that's when i discovered that there is an ASSIGNMENT we're supposed to bring. what? so i have to do that pretty quickly. it won't be great, and i'll probably be blown away by all the amazing work that the other illustrators will do. sigh. at least i won't walk in empty handed though, i guess.

so anyway, the next time i make a post i will hopefully have cool pictures to show you from the trip. be safe, babies.

Here is one of the only pictures I took from Christmas:

We made pizzas on the grill for Christmas dinner at my parent's house, and I thought the toppings looked so pretty. Apparently I didn't think my family members looked pretty. I would always like to take more pictures at events, but never think of it. Or feel dorky whipping out the camera. People never seem to want me to take their picture.

It's been snowing a lot here in Indianapolis. I grew up with loads of snow in northern Indiana, so whatever snow we get here in central Indiana always seems like nothin'. Although I do really love that it doesn't snow so much. I despise driving in it. But I do always laugh and roll my eyes at "BREAKING NEWS!" stories about 2 inches of snow. Try 12 inches and your school doesn't even get canceled: the story of my life as a child. Anyway, here is the first "big" snow we got here in indy:

The snow is falling so fast, it looks like streaks through the tree!

New years eve was fun for us. my mom put on a surprise birthday party for my dad, who is turning 50. she wanted to give him a party, and knew that he'd figure it out if she had it on his actual birthday, which is the 14th. so she planned a "small get together" for new years eve. One couple canceled, the other showed up at 6:30. The rest of the guests showed up around quarter after 7, and boy was he surprised! It was a fun night of champagne, food, and friends.

now it is back to normal life. it has been hard to get back into the swing of things. i haven't been able to break out of holiday-lazy-mode. and brandon is already home sick for the new year. but don't tell him that i think he is just a tad bit wimpy ... he wants to see the doctor after one day of coughing. hmm.

have a good week, all!
