Here is a little peek at what I've been working on for the next opening at Lala Gallery in Lafayette (April 24th!):

Lots of hand sewing and embroidery! It took forever! But I enjoy making things take longer than necessary sometimes. I use the word "enjoy" loosely.

I've been working on my new studio lately. It's going to take me awhile to get it all done, but if I just do a little bit at a time it will eventually happen. I don't always have time to spend all day up there doing stuff. I started painting the wood paneling, and soon I'm going to rip up the old nasty stained carpet, just in time for heavy trash pick up day. I can't wait till my "club house" is all finished!

my macbook arrived today!!!

Photo 6

here i am, joyfully taking my picture with the camera on said laptop. the little camera sort of makes me uneasy, as i imagine that someone, somewhere, is watching me through it. like a reverse peephole. creepy.

so i had it shipped to brandon's parents house, because i wasn't sure when it would be delivered. i thought maybe i'd be at work or something, and their house is safer since they have a porch. well apparently today the fedex man came to deliver it while janet (my mother in law) was out on her bus route (she drives a school bus), so he said "delivery failed; customer not home." but then miraculously, she drove past the house just as he was still in her driveway, so she stopped the bus in front and stuck out her stop sign, you know, right in the middle of US 52. the fedex man saw her there and she motioned to him, and signed for the package. haha!

i've just been messing around with it all evening, learning things and downloading things i need. luckily this computer can see my old one over the network, so i can just drag and drop things from there that i need. very cool.

i've wanted a laptop for a very long time, and some stars aligned last week making it possible for me to afford one right now. i got a refurbished one from the apple store, and so far I LOVE IT.

ok enough of that.

i think i'm going to get new glasses soon. would you like to help me pick them out? i really need a buddy to come along, as it's sort of a big decision.

also today's big news is that brandon was biting his finger nail, and part of his bottom tooth chipped off. not like a huge chunk, just a tiny sliver-chunk, but i guess it's all sharp and ragged, and he can't help but run his tongue over it, which is making it get all cut up. luckily we just received our dental insurance cards in the mail a few days ago. timing.

maud and annie web

I am in love with this new technique of watercolor and graphite. Well it's not totally new, I've been trying to "develop" it for over a year now. But I feel like it's finally starting to come together for me. Sometimes I'm afraid I'll miss the vivid colors I get from colored pencils, but I think I can still get those colors, I just need to learn watercolor a little bit more. I'm getting there. I am still a bit too timid, I think. Also if I ever need to, I can go back in with colored pencils, and as long as it's not too thick, the graphite still works over the top of that. I love mixed media! The best part is: I began this final image on sunday afternoon, and finished it last night, even after working a full day at the library yesterday. So quick, so awesome!

I just found this:

Garden of Heathen-poster-final

Very awesome to see the final product!

Garden of Heathen
i finished up these two brothers yesterday. green went to NY, and yellow went to TX. although they are now separated, they will keep in touch through letters and free long distance cell phone minutes.

if you can't tell, this guy was on our mini blinds in the living room. the weird thing is this: the window is still covered by the plastic shrink wrap. i guess he probably went through the little slit at the top for the stick thing that opens/closes the blinds. oh man, i just went to see if he's still in there, and he's not ... so he's somewhere in the house?? what the hell is that thing, anyway? ick!

and also:

i'm finally a card-carrying member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. I would always forget to join, but finally did last week sometime. perhaps i will be motivated enough to go to the big conference next year in NY. this will probably entail being brave enough to fly alone.

i almost clicked "buy now" on the computer i want. but i decided to hold off for another week or so ... i changed my mind about 4 times today on certain things, and i want to make sure that my latest decision is the one that will stick before i spend all that $$ and then regret it. i just wish i could have it NOW.

the past couple of days i've felt like i'm coming down with something ... i really hope not. i have this really small sort of ache on the side of my throat that feels like the beginning of a sore throat, but it's been there for over 24 hours ... you'd think i'd actually have a full blown one by now, but no. and i'm also extremely tired. perhaps i'll be able to fight it off before it comes full force. fingers crossed.
